Diet Buddies
About me:
I'm a mom of 2 kids under 2. I'm currently on maternity leave from my job as a middle school French teacher. I have a husband who does his best to support my weight loss but truly doesn't understand the struggle it is.

Right now, my mini-goal is to get to my pre-pregnancy weight of 171lbs. From there, I'd like to get down to a healthy weight of 135lbs.

I'm losing weight to have the energy to keep up with my family and my students. I also want to look great for my husband, you know... a real trophy wife. LOL

I want to walk into a store, see an outfit I like and just buy it without worrying if they make it in "plus sizes" and if it will look silly on me. More importantly, I want to be healthy.

I enjoy scrapbooking, when I can find the time; going for walks, hanging out with other moms and playing with my kids. I'm also a Pampered Chef consultant, which is ironic because I don't know how to cook! I can follow a recipe, but am just not very creative in the kitchen. I am trying to learn how to make different, healthier recipes that my whole family will eat.
Who I hope to meet:
Anyone! Honestly, I am finding inspiration from everyone's blogs on here. I am just so excited that there are other people out there trying, and succeeding, at this weight loss/getting healthy challenge. I want to meet people who are succeeding, who are struggling and who are just willing to give, and get, a little bit of support.
No specific diet just healthy choices with the occasional splurge.
Walking on the treadmill playing with my kids Looking for other ideas too!

You can do it! You can do it! 01/28/2009

Thanks for your comment! You can do it! It does seem very difficult but once done you will find relief. We cant let the scale control our emotions or our eating. You will feel good when you know you are doing well based on your ACTIONS...not the scale reading :)

Well you've started and that's the most important step that so many people don't take.  Keep it up! Sounds like you are really aware of what you are doing thatis not working for you and that's a huge step.  I am also not a big fan of cooking becuase of the time and energy I feel it takes.  My finance Dave cooks alot but he cooks the simplest and most delicious meals so quickly!

Here's an example dinner:

chicken breast cooked with a little olive oil in pan- add spice to flavour
minute brown rice
steamed veggies like broccoli, carrots, peas, red/ yellow/ orange peppers, or he'll throw some onion into the chicken when it's done.

He can whip this up in 30 min or less.  Another trick is to chop a bunch of veggies on the weekend so all you need to do is throw them in a pan or pot and the most work is done already.

I am a teacher as well- grade 7- so I know how fried you can get in a day.  Kids take a lot of energy too.  You are on the right track though.  Pre-cooking things, making a big pot of soup on the weekends for lunches etc. all help so much and make it harder to slip up because you have a healthy choice ready.  Dave also knows I like to eat leftovers for my lunch (so I don't have to make a lunch!) so he cooks a bit more than we would be able to eat.

Keep in touch about your progress :)
