About me:
Hi! I'm Betsy. I'm 21 years old and living with my best friend. (Who has the worst eating habits in the WORLD!!) I'm trying to go back to school- just don't know which one yet.

I have been overweight practically since the day I was born, so trying to reeducate myself on lifelong eating habits has been tough. I weighed 300 lbs before I was out of high school due to binge eating brought on by abuse and poorly taught eating habits. I had a reason for turning into what I have, but, thankfully, now that reason is gone. At my highest weight I was almost 375 lbs. At that point, I figured I would just keep going the way I was and that nothing was going to change that, soI turned to bulimia. Eventually I decided that if I was going to go that extreme I might as well get the Bariatric surgery. When I started that process, everything changed. I had a new outlook. I had hope. And suddenly I began losing weight. I never did get the Bariatric surgery- I was doing so well the natural way- and now I am down to 314. I know that was a convoluted story, and I thank you for reading this far.

I'm so tired of my weight holding me back, and, even worse, holding myself back because of my weight. I want to get married and have kids. I want to be a doctor. I want to be able to go out in public and not feel inadequate. I hope to continue on this weight loss path, and I'm hoping that this site will help keep me on the right track.

If there is anyone else on this site who has experienced or is experiencing abuse of any kind, feel free to contact me through the site. I will listen and do anything I can to help.
Who I hope to meet:
Oops. . .filled this part out wrong before. . .What's the point in meeting Bruce Willis or Johnny Knoxville if I'm not confident enough to do anything about it? I want to meet the new, confident me.

Great Progress! Great Progress! 10/05/2009

Hey Betsy!

I just wanted to say congratulations on losing 60 pounds, that is really an inspiration and I hope I can get to that point someday too!  Also, I read your blog about going half veg and I wanted to offer a little advice.  I would try to meet with a nutritionist, if you cant afford one (I couldn't) a lot of times you can meet one at a community center or a campus health center.  I was a vegetarian for four years and it has been a big contributor to my weight gain.  If it is done correctly, it is very very healthy, but it is easy to miss out on key nutrients if you are not well informed.  Also, if you do decide to do it don't be discouraged if you gain a little weight at first because it takes your body a little while to adjust to the new types of nutrients you will be getting.  Let me know what you decide to do, maybe I can share some delish veg recipies!  Keep up the good work!!
